Po krótkiej przerwie nadszedł czas na drugą część opisu mojego drugiego wypadu w okolice Nagasaki. W pierwszej części było głównie o samym mieście podczas gdy druga część poświęcona będzie tak naprawdę głównemu celowi tego wyjazdu – zdobycie wulkanu Unzen-Dake.

After a really short break it’s time for the second part of the post about my second trip to Nagasaki area. In the first part I pretty much covered what I have seen in the city itself while the second one is focusing on the main goal of this trip – conquering the very peak of Unzen-Dake volcano.

Poranek, kolejny dzień – zdjęcie wykonane z przejścia dla pieszych znajdującego się nad jezdnią (widać po lewej stronie fragment). Pogoda wyglądała na idealną by zostać w hotelu a nie wybierać się na łażenie po górach 😉 Plan na ten dzień – zdobycie szczytu w Unzen-Dake!

Morning, the next day – photo taken from pedestrians’ bridge which part of you can see on the left side. Weather was perfect for staying in hotel instead of going for hiking 😉 The plan for that day was simple – conquer peak of Unzen-Dake!

Coś w stylu autoportret – plecak, moja noga, bardzo mocno zmęczona życiem czapka oraz zapas żywności na cały dzień, dwa bloki CalorieMate. Super sprawa bo z dodatkiem wody takie coś starczyło na calutki dzień. Serio.

A kind of a self-portrait – backpack, my leg, old cap and my food for whole day. Two blocks of CalorieMate. Those two blocks and one bottle of water was enough for me to survive whole day of hiking, seriously.

Witaj Unzen! Widać nic się nie zmieniło, nadal czuć było siarkę i mimo, iż mgła wciąż wisiała w powietrzu to jednak można było dostrzec samochody jadące po drodze dalej niż 3 metry ode mnie 😀 Nie to co rok temu 😉

Long time no see Unzen! Not much has changed since I was here last year as I could smell sulfur and there was fog but it was much better this time as I could see cars on the roads, cars that were more than 3 meters from me 😉

Trzeba było użyć lepszej siatki, na przykład takiej ocynkowanej lub grubo pomalować całość jakąś odporną farbą a nie pójść po kosztach 😉

Someone should have used a better type of a fence – covered with anti-rusting coating or paint everything with good paint 😉

Obrzeża miasteczka – cisza, spokój, ale za to wszędzie ta mgła o zapachu siarki.

Town’s suburbs – silent and pleasant place to stay even if there was this sulphur flavoured fog all around.

Rok temu nie widać było jak wygląda ‘piekiełko’ od kuchni – tym razem widoczność była lepsza jednak sporo czaru po prostu prysło

Last year I could not see how did they make this ‘hell’ but this time conditions were much better. Unfortunately I felt like all the magic of this place just disappeared

Widok na piekło z góry – z hotelem w oddali. Nie wiem czy wspominałem o tym, że w przeszłości tutejsze gorące źródła wykorzystywane były do wykonywania egzekucji na pierwszych w Japonii chrześcijanach?

View from above – in the further part you can see big hotel. I’m not sure if I mentioned this but those hot springs were used to perform executions on first Christians as Christianity was forbidden in Japan at the beginning.

W sumie mógłbym pousuwać wszystkie osoby w tym kadrze i wyszłoby naprawdę fajne ujęcie, nie? 😀 Tyle tylko, że jestem zbyt leniwy a to brzmi jak dużo roboty 😉

In the end could have removed people from this photo and that would make it look much better, but I’m too lazy and this definitely sounds like a lot of additional work 😉

Rok temu w tym miejscu sprzedawane były jajka gotowane na oparach z gorących źródeł. Niestety były dość drogie (500 jenów czyli około 20 zł), ale pewnie smak pewnie wynagradzał cenę. Mimo wszystko nie zdecydowałem się na zakup. Tym razem byłem moralnie nastawiony na spróbowanie lokalnego przysmaku jednak na miejscu okazało się, że nikt ich nie sprzedaje. Może następnym razem? 😀

One year ago it was possible to buy eggs boiled on steam from hot springs. I bet their taste was unusual / special but I wasn’t too convinced to buy them and they were expensive (500 yen which is around 5 USD). This year I was mentally ready to check them but unfortunately no one was selling them. Maybe next time? 😀

Jak widać pogoda momentalnie się poprawiła – z pełnej mgły do stanu, w którym widać było nawet kawałki błękitnego nieba, a będzie jeszcze lepiej.

As you can see, weather become much better – from fog to the point I could see blue parts of the sky. And later it even become better.

Ostatnie ujęcie piekieł, tak na pożegnanie. Chwilę później udałem się w stronę tej budki by za nią odbić na wschód ścieżką wijącą się po górce w tle. Kierunek: szczyt Unzen-Dake!

The last photo from Unzen hells. After taking it I went to the small pavilion you can see on the left side and from it I took narrow path leading to the hill in the background. This marked the beginning of the journey to conquer the peak of Unzen-Dake!

Piękny kawałek drogi gdzieś pomiędzy lasami i górami. Aż chciałoby się usiąść za kierownicą samochodu i pojeździć w takich okolicznościach przyrody. Po prawej widać fragmenty wielkiego pola golfowego.

Beautiful scene with a road in the middle of forest and with hills in the background. I really wanted to have car over there so I could enjoy driving in such a beautiful area. On the ride side of the photo, on the other side of this road, you can see fence around golf course.

Cały czas podążałem ścieżką, którą odkryłem w zeszłym roku gdy po raz pierwszy próbowałem zdobyć Unzen-Dake. Z poprzedniego wyjazdu pozostały mi tylko ujęcia rodem z Silent Hill (jedyne co było widać to mgła!), tym razem natomiast było piękne słonko, które radośnie mnie przypiekało. Ale to i tak nie było ważne – te widoki, cisza i spokój.

All the time I was following my own footsteps as last year I took exactly the same path from Unzen to Unzen-Dake. Previously it was really Silent Hillish (fog everywhere!) while this time weather was really good with a lot of sun and almost no clouds on the sky. Ok, sun was a little too bright and it was more than ‘a little’ too hot. Nevertheless some inconvenience was a small price for those awesome views with pretty much no civilization’s noises around.

Przegrzebując mój pierwszy wpis z Nagasaki z łatwością można znaleźć zdjęcie pokazujące dokładnie to samo ujęcie, tyle, że z mgłą. Jest różnica 😀

You can check my first note about Nagasaki and Unzen – you can find photo taken from exactly the same spot with only difference being the weather (fog…). This make a huge difference 😀

Przeklęty kot, który rok wcześniej niemalże spowodował zawał serca u mnie (nagle zauważyłem jego kształty wyłaniające się z mgły). Przeklęty betonowy kot >_>

Damn cat. One year ago I almost got a heart attack when I notice a big cat’s shape appearing from the fog. Damned concrete cat >_>

Po przejściu koło pola golfowego i pokonaniu podejścia do parkingu przy drodze prowadzącej do kolejki linowej rozpoczęło się właściwe wspinanie. Niby można było podjechać kolejką, ale to zabiera całą radość z łażenia po górach plus traci się szansę na takie widoki 🙂

After passing through golf course area, hiking to the parking in front of the ropeway I finally had a chance to start real hiking. One could take ropeway to get to the higher areas but this feels like cheating. Another thing is missing views like this one 🙂

Panorama zrobiona z górnej stacji kolejki linowej. Widać parking, w dolinie poniżej znajduje się pole golfowe by za górkami dalej znajdowało się Unzen wraz z gorącymi źródłami. O ile się nie mylę to chmury po prawej na horyzoncie są w okolicach Nagasaki – podczas dobrej pogody można dostrzec Unzen-Deki z góry Inasa w Nagasaki.

Panorama taken from the upper ropeway station. Here you can see parking lot next to Nita pass, in the valley there is mentioned golf course and even further, behind those small hills, one can see Unzen with its hot springs / hells. If I’m not wrong clouds on the horizon to the right are around Nagasaki as it is possible to see Unzen from Nagasaki, from Inasa mountain, when weather is good.

Trasa przebiegała grzbietem gór. Na zdjęciu po lewej widać ostateczny cel wyprawy – kupka kamieni oznaczająca krater wulkanu. Było na tyle cicho i spokojnie, że praktycznie rozmowy osób stojących na kamieniu

Hiking trail was on arête between multiple peaks. On the left side in the background you can see my final goal, this huge pile of stones is in fact Unzen-Dake volcano. It was so calm there so I could almost hear voices of people on the photo.

To zdjęcie jest dość specyficzne i nie chodzi o to co jest na nim tylko co się działo w czasie gdy je wykonywałem. Postanowiłem, że całą trasę będę śledził za pomocą Endomondo – telefon w roamingu wraz z włączonym GPSem. Wszystko szło nieźle, aż w pewnym momencie zauważyłem, że telefon (Samsung Galaxy Note 3) sam z siebie zrestartował się, bo czemu nie. Po ustawiłem wszystko i bach, telefon ponownie zrestartował się. Tym razem jednak skończyło się na czymś dużo gorszym gdyż bystrofon wpadł w pętle restartów. Pomogło dopiero wyciągnięcie baterii i odczekanie chwili. Uruchomienie i szok, bateria spadła o ładnych kilkadziesiąt procent. Dalej odpuściłem sobie GPS bo w takiej sytuacji najważniejsze jest połączenie z siecią na wypadek sytuacji na szlaku. Odblokowałem tryb samolotowy (pomiędzy którymś restartem udało mi się go aktywować) i telefon znowu wpadł w pętle resetów. Szczęśliwie miałem awaryjny feature phone do którego włożyłem kartę sim i już dałem sobie spokój z flagowym telefonem Samsunga. Takie zachowanie telefonu w takiej sytuacji całkowicie skreśla dla mnie produkty tej firmy (oryginalny soft, zero modyfikacji). Po prostu nie lubię ryzykować życia.

This photo is a little bit different from others and it is not directly related to the scene on it – it’s all about things that happened around that time. I wanted to track my path with Endomondo, from the start till the end so I had my phone set for roaming with GPS enabled. Everything was fine until I noticed my phone just rebooted on its own (Samsung Galaxy Note 3) . All the history was lost but there was still a long way ahead of me so I set everything. When I was done my phone just rebooted, again. In fact it went into reboot loop and I could escape it only by removing battery and waiting for some time. It was the moment when I noticed a few dozens of percentages of battery was randomly wasted. I gave up on GPS as for me mobile network is more important during hiking – just in case of emergency. I unlocked flight mode and my phone again went into infinite loop of reboots. Luckily I had a feature phone with me so I just moved my sim card . Samsung flagship phone was pretty much useless and exposed me to danger. This is not something I could even image for flagship to do so pretty much all Samsung phones are done for me – I really don’t like to risk my life because phone doesn’t work (it has original software without any modifications).

Wzdłuż grzbietu po drugiej stronie doliny ciągnie się trasa po której szedłem. Chmura po lewej zasłania obszar z górną stacją kolejki linowej.

Hiking trail I used is on the other side of the valley, along the arête. Cloud on the left side covers area with upper ropeway station.

W latach dziewięćdziesiątych ubiegłego wieku doszło do erupcji wulkanu w wyniku czego wschodnia ściana praktycznie przestała istnieć zaś gorąca masa spłynęła w stronę pobliskiej zatoki. Na zdjęciu widać miejsce przez które przeszła gorąca masa i które w tej chwili pokryte jest siecią zabezpieczeń na wypadek przyszłych erupcji.

In the first half of nineties of twentieth century Unzen-Dake erupted. This caused eastern part of the mountain to collapse and all the pyroclastic materials went down to the nearby bay. On this photo you can see that area as well as prevention measurements in case of future eruptions.

Ciąg dalszy zabezpieczeń na wypadek przyszłych erupcji – zdjęcie wykonane ze środka wielkiego mostu rozciągniętego nad nowo powstałą doliną. W tle widać szczyt Unzen-Dake częściowo zakryty przez chmury. To już koniec wyprawy w okolice tego szczytu 😦

Jeszcze tego samego dnia co zdobywałem Unzen-Dake po powrocie do Nagasaki udałem się w rejon hipocentrum w celu zrobienia wieczornych zdjęć. Nie spodziewałem się kotów grzdżacych się na głównym monumencie…

Later the same day after returned to Nagasaki I went for night photos of places around hypocenter monument in Nagasaki. I was quite surprised to see many cats around that place

Ostatni dzień w Nagasaki – trzy godziny przed odjazdem autobusu przeszedłem się po okolicach portu.

The last day in Nagasaki – three hours before my bus departure I went for a leisure walk around harbor.

Ostatnie ujęcie z Nagasaki, już z walizką w drodze na dworzec autobusowy. Jest to chyba jedno z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych ujęć miasta. Może jeszcze kiedyś tam wrócę…

Last photo from Nagasaki, I was already with my luggage as I was on my way to the bus terminal. I think this is one of the best photos of the city one can take. Maybe someday I will once again go to Nagasaki?…
